In line with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari, the senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has elected Professor Folasade Ogunsola as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the school.

President Buhari had in a statement via the spokesman of the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong directed that Wale Babalakin, the pro-chancellor/Chairman of UNILAG and the Vice-Chancellor of the School Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, to recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by the President.

The election of Professor Folasade Ogunsola who was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services at UNILAG is the result of this directive.

For the emergence of Ogunsola, 135 professors voted for her out of the 167 that were in attendance and eligible to vote. She contested the position with Prof. Ben Ogbojafor who had 31 votes. Meanwhile, a vote was voided.

Chairman of the Senate Emergency Committee, Prof. Chioma Agomo, also announced the result to journalists after the election.

According to Wikipedia, Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola is a Nigerian professor of medical microbiology. She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola is also the immediate past provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and is reputed as being the first woman to occupy the position.
